Jizerská 50 not threatened by adverse weather
January 3, 2012
Not even the unseasonably warm weather can stop the preparations for the ČSOB Pojišťovna 45th Jizerská 50, which will take place without changes on the upcoming weekend of 6-8 January 2012. The conditions on the trail, which have worsened with the high temperatures and rain, should further improve with strong snowfall in the course of Thursday and Friday.
Roughly ten centimetres of old snow lie on the ground at the stadium in Bedřichov, where the start and finish are located. Approximately 20 centimetres of snow lie on other parts of the trail. In the past two years the organisers have helped with the production of artificial snow; due to the above-freezing temperatures, however, it was not possible throughout December to put the snow machine into operation.
“We inspected the entire trail and it is in order,” says Martin Koucký, chairman of the organising committee of the ČSOB Pojišťovna 45th Jizerská 50. “In some places the trail is icy, but we are preparing to bring in snow to those areas. We also expect significant snowfall during Thursday, Friday and Saturday, when approximately 20 centimetres should fall, and in that case the conditions will be ideal for the race.”
The weekend of the ČSOB Pojišťovna 45th Jizerská 50 starts on Friday with the O2 Bedřichov 30 freestyle event, continues on Saturday with children’s races and the Jizerská Company relay, and culminates on Sunday with the main 50 km classic race, which will be broadcast live on ČT4, and the half-distance Intersport Jizerská 25. The accompanying programme includes a celebratory opening ceremony with fireworks on Friday evening in Bedřichov and the traditional SkiFest musical event featuring David Koller and his band under the open sky in Liberec on Saturday evening.
